Preparing Raised Garden beds for Winter 💡
Our Community Gardens are made up of a group of people coming together to nurture, develop and sustain growing spaces in this community. Groundswell has 50 individual community garden beds available for rent. By providing community gardens Groundswell is promoting local, organically grown food; healthy and active lifestyles; and safer, more vibrant and connected communities.
Community gardens provide many benefits including:
- A learning space for sustainable gardening
- Light recreation activity for all ages
- Beautification of neighbourhoods
- Healthy food production
- Community building
- Places to share gardening knowledge and experience
Information on bed rentals
The “Community” in community gardens is meaningful. You can learn from your fellow gardeners, swap watering with other bed renters when you holiday, chow down together on Groundswells freshly grown produce and contribute to other families by supporting the Food Bank with excess produce.
Groundswell presently has two community garden sites with a total of 50 garden beds for rent:
Site 1 – Greenhouse and
Site 2 – Mt Nelson
Some things you need to know:
To rent a Groundswell garden bed at either site you must first be a member. Note: Membership comes with many other benefits.
Groundswell’s community gardens are organic and all members are required to be pesticide and chemical free.
If you have a financial barrier preventing you from renting, please email a request for a garden plot and we will try our best to help you out. bedrentals@groundswellnetwork.ca
Free seeds are available from the seed library at Invermere Public Library.
Community Garden members are each required to volunteer 2 hours a month to help maintain the community gardens. There are many different tasks available for you to sign up for depending on your interests and abilities.
You will be required to abide by the Community Garden Agreement. If you have questions please contact – bedrentals@groundswellnetwork.ca
